So it turns out Cowley Road is officially the 8th coolest street in the UK according to The Telegraph!
Of course, we knew this already.
We’ve really noticed a boom in East Oxford over the past 18 months.
Property values in certain streets around the Cowley Road have increased by up to 50 per cent during the past 18 months. The boom is focused on the ‘golden triangle’ which radiates out from The Plain and runs between St Clements and Iffley Road and up as far as Magdalen Road. Some of the most sought-after are Jeune Street, Alma Place, James Street, Tyndale Road and Temple Street. But roads such as East Avenue, Union Street, Marston and Aston Street are also much in demand.
A good example is an apartment in Woodman’s Court on Cross Street. Bought at the beginning of 2012 for £187,000, it was sold in September last year for £265,000.
Mark Crampton Smith, Director at College and County says “The whole of East Oxford has gone berserk because of the Jericho-effect. It’s a bohemian quarter which has attracted trendy students for quite a while but there's been a shift in the past 18 months. Now, we are seeing upwardly mobile professionals and older, more established residents, often empty nesters, choosing to move there from other smart areas such as Summertown. It’s a vibrant community that has attracted artists, writers, musicians and pretty much anyone who works in the arts or the media. Because the capital uplift is so significant, we also have investors lined up looking to buy to let.”
